Our Tulum Beachfront Suites: Five Rooms on the Sand, and Which One Is Yours

Quick answer

Our Tulum beachfront suites are five rooms facing the Caribbean on our private beach in South Tulum. The Robinson Master Suite sits on the sand under a palapa seven metres high, with a king bed that rolls out to the terrace and a soaking tub. Odyssey and Compass are at ground level, so you step off the terrace onto the sand. Sunrise and Pelican are one level up, each with a hammock and the sea straight ahead. Breakfast is included, and we take guests aged 12 and over.

We have five suites right on the beach. Every one of them faces the Caribbean, and every one opens onto our private sand. Twenty-two suites, no two mornings the same, and these five are the ones where the morning starts with the sea.

Here's how they differ, so you can pick the one that fits how you like to spend a day.

Which of our suites are on the beach?

Our beachfront suites are the Robinson Master Suite, Odyssey and Compass (our Beachfront Lower suites), and Sunrise and Pelican (our Beachfront Upper suites). They sit on the beach side of the hotel, on the Carretera Tulum-Boca Paila in South Tulum.

Suite Where it sits What sets it apart
Robinson Master Suite On the sand, under a 7 m palapa King bed that rolls onto the terrace, soaking bathtub, about 1,000 sq ft, sleeps 2
Odyssey, Compass Ground level Step off the terrace straight onto the sand; the tub is indoors
Sunrise, Pelican One level up A hammock on the terrace, the sea straight ahead

The Robinson Master Suite

The Robinson Master Suite is our one master suite on the beach, and there's only one of it. It sits on the sand under a palapa roof seven metres up. The king-size bed rolls out onto the terrace, so you can sleep outside with the ocean starting right where the deck ends.

Inside there's a soaking bathtub under the palapa, a living area open to the sea, and handmade furniture against the thatched wall. It's about 1,000 square feet and sleeps two. Robinson Crusoe, only hipper.

Book this one if the room is the trip. If you're planning to be out at the ruins every day, it's a lot of suite to leave empty.

Odyssey and Compass: ground level

Odyssey and Compass are for people who want sand under their feet before coffee. They're at ground level, so the terrace steps straight down onto the beach. No stairs, no path. The tub is indoors.

These are the ones we'd point you to if you'll be in and out of the water all day and don't want to think about it.

Sunrise and Pelican: one level up

Sunrise and Pelican sit one level up, and the height is the point. Each has a hammock on the terrace with the sea straight ahead of it. You see more of the water and a bit less of the beach traffic below.

If you're the kind of guest who reads for three hours in the afternoon, pick one of these.

The rest of the beach side

Not every beach-side room faces the water. A few look into the garden instead, a short walk back from the sand.

  • Rattan Suite (Garden Suite Lower): beach side, but facing green. It keeps a private plunge pool out in the planting, which none of our beachfront records list.
  • Garden Suite Upper: one floor up, with a terrace level with the tops of the plants.
  • Coconut, Areca, Tropical and Parasol (Garden View Rooms): four rooms off the sand paths, each with its own deck onto the garden.

If what you really want is the jungle and the cenote, that's the other side of the hotel. Beach side or jungle side, the choice is yours.

What the beach is like

The beach is ours and it's private. We lay out towels and reef-safe sunscreen, and a team clears the sargassum every day. Sargassum is a natural thing on this coast and nobody can predict it, but we deal with it each morning so you don't have to.

For food, our beach and jungle restaurants cook Caribbean and classic Mexican with a French hand, served tapeo-style. For dinner, cross to the jungle side for NÜ Tulum. It's dinner only and has been in the Michelin Guide three years running.

Before you book

  • Breakfast: included with every beachfront suite.
  • Ages: we're a small hotel and only take guests 12 and over.
  • Check-in and out: check-in is at 3:00 pm and check-out at noon. If we have space, late check-out until 1:00 pm is on us.
  • Air conditioning: it runs around the clock. We ask that you use it mostly from 6:00 pm to 9:00 am to save energy.
  • Water: the tap water isn't for drinking. You'll find purified water from our own well in the bathroom.
